What to do when you call

  1. Pick the number from the table above, or dial 112 if unsure.
  2. Say where you are first; the operator records the place of the incident.
  3. Give your name, the time, how the incident is developing and the help you need.
  4. Stay on the line: the city’s 115 switchboard keeps the connection open to guide first aid.
  5. Do not report a false emergency: deliberately giving false information about an incident or disaster is handled under the law.

Which number to call

113 is the police, 114 is fire and 115 is medical emergency. 112 is search and rescue.

A crime or theft is a 113 matter. A fire is a 114 matter. A person who is hurt or ill is a 115 matter. If you cannot tell, 112 forwards information within the scope of 113, 114 or 115 to that line.

What happens when you call 112

The national 112 system went into operation on 23/8/2025 as the single nationwide number that receives reports. It works 24 hours on all days.

A 112 call connects directly to the provincial Military Command, which deploys response forces.

The operator records your name, the time and place of the incident, how it is developing and its reach, and the help needed. Decision 2024/QĐ-TTg took effect on its signing date, 15/9/2025.

The older numbers still work

When the 112 system goes into use, 113, 114 and 115 continue to operate normally. At a suitable time, calls to them will be routed to 112 for shared use.

How the city ambulance centre works

Medical emergency calls go to the city’s 115 Emergency Centre. Its switchboard does more than send an ambulance: it stays on the line to guide first aid.

A plan would put the whole city area, now including the former Binh Duong and Ba Ria-Vung Tau, on the single 115 number. The plan aims for at least 70 satellite emergency stations, each serving up to 20 km.

The city ambulance centre’s rate is VND 20,000 per km on the vehicle meter, as reported on 17 August 2023; no newer posted rate is on record. There is no single nationwide price, and each province or city sets its own.

Do not count on health insurance covering it: in August 2026 the centre’s director called for health-insurance payment to be extended to emergency patients. Keep every receipt for your own insurer.

The 115 line is for Vietnamese speakers only; for English, use a hospital line below.

Some private hospitals are part of that network. Tam Anh General Hospital HCMC is a satellite emergency station of the 115 centre. Family members or bystanders can call 115 or the nearest qualified medical facility.

The planned single number: 113

A Prime Minister decision of 29/6/2026 plans to fold 113, 114 and 115 into one number, 113. Phase one sits at the Police Information-Command Centres of 34 provinces and cities.

Under the plan, officers on the 113 switchboard will also receive and coordinate pre-hospital medical emergency calls. No start date is set for Ho Chi Minh City. Until it is announced, call 113 for the police and keep dialling 115 for a medical emergency.

If your embassy or consulate is needed

For consular help, contact your own embassy or consulate. The Australian Consulate-General is on the 20th Floor, Vincom Center, 47 Ly Tu Trong Street, Saigon Ward.

Its office phone is +84 28 3521 8100, for 8:30am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday excluding public holidays. For urgent help outside business hours, the Consular Emergency Centre in Canberra runs 24-hour support on +61 2 6261 3305.

The consulate warns that scammers spoof its phone number to make fraudulent calls. Other nationalities should use the numbers on their own embassy’s official page.

Before you ever need it
