Food Delivery Apps in Ho Chi Minh City: Fees Compared

ShopeeFood and GrabFood lead Vietnamese food delivery with 48 per cent of the market between them. Xanh SM Food has the lowest published night surcharge, VND 5,000, from 22:01 to 05:59. Grab and ShopeeFood take cash on delivery, while Grab charges 4% on cards issued abroad.

Delivery fare, service fee and surcharges sit around the food price, and the total on the checkout screen is what you pay.

Baemin and GoFood are gone, so stop looking for them. Four apps are left.

GrabFood

Open the Grab app you already use for rides and tap Food. GrabFood limits the restaurants to those within a set distance of your address.

The delivery fare in Ho Chi Minh City is VND 11,782 for the first 3 km. After that it is VND 5,400 per km up to under 7 km and VND 5,891 per km from 7 km.

Then come the extras. A service fee of VND 4,000 or 6,000 depends on how the restaurant partners with Grab. Small orders add VND 2,000 or 3,000 when the food value is under a minimum. Priority delivery costs VND 5,000 to 15,000.

Hotpot, grill and pizza restaurants add VND 5,000 to 10,000. If the restaurant charges for parking, that lands on your bill too.

Grab applies 8% VAT until 31 December 2026. Expect fees to move after that date. The price in the app is the final cost.

To pay cash, tap Payment method at checkout, tap Cash and finish the order. Paying with large notes: message your driver first so they have change. Follow the driver on the map, and call the driver’s number in the app if the dot does not move.

A card issued abroad costs 4% extra through Moca.

ShopeeFood

ShopeeFood has the biggest list of places: 113,415 in Ho Chi Minh City.

You fill in your phone number, delivery address and delivery time. Pay by cash on delivery, by credit card or internet banking, or with the ShopeePay wallet.

The delivery fare changes by time slot during the day, so read it at checkout. Any difference is confirmed at delivery. ShopeeFood does not serve outer-suburb addresses or orders beyond 30 km.

Cancel from the order details page or through chat in the app. More than 2 cancellations without a good reason lock the account for good. Refunds follow each restaurant’s own policy, because ShopeeFood is not the supplier.

Do not abuse cash payment. ShopeeFood can lock cash on delivery and the member account for violations.

beFood by Be

BeFood holds 4 per cent of the market. The first 2 km cost VND 18,000 and each next km VND 5,200.

Add VND 3,000 for order handling, or VND 5,000 at a restaurant that is not a Be partner. Door delivery costs VND 5,000. Prices include 8% VAT.

The night surcharge is VND 10,000 on any order that starts or ends between 23:00 and 06:00. Fares move with demand by area and time of day. At some restaurants the driver’s VND 5,000 parking fee lands on your bill.

The fees appear on the checkout page of the Be app before you confirm.

Xanh SM Food

Xanh SM Food (Xanh SM Ngon) entered the market in mid-2025. It offers fast delivery with a no-merged-orders option and all-electric vehicles.

It runs 24 hours a day in Ho Chi Minh City and delivers within 15 km. The Ho Chi Minh City zone follows the new boundaries and includes the former Binh Duong.

The fare is VND 16,000 for the first 3 km and VND 5,000 for each km after that. The platform fee is VND 3,000 on every order, with another VND 3,000 when a stall is not a partner. Late orders add VND 5,000 from 22:01 to 05:59. Public holidays and extreme weather add VND 5,000 each.

Ordering as a foreigner

Get a Vietnamese number first. A Viettel eSIM with a local number receives one-time codes for Grab and delivery apps. The SIM card guide covers the setup.

Then the address. The apps ask for a delivery address and a time. Use the new ward name from the address format guide.

A card issued abroad costs 4% extra on Grab. Keep cash as a backup on the other apps. Wallets and QR codes are covered in QR payments for foreigners in Vietnam.

Night orders and bad weather

Late orders cost more on the apps that publish a surcharge. Be adds VND 10,000 from 23:00, and Xanh SM Food adds VND 5,000 from 22:01.

Rain and heat count too. Xanh SM Food adds VND 5,000 in extreme weather. Fares on Be rise with demand by area and time of day. Check the checkout total when the sky turns dark.

Before you order

• Open two apps and compare the checkout total, not the dish price.
• Pick Cash at checkout on Grab and tell the driver if you hold large notes.
• Add the extras to your budget: service, small-order, platform and night fees.
• Pay by card on Grab only if you accept the 4% foreign-card fee.
• Order from places inside the delivery radius: 15 km on Xanh SM Food, 30 km on ShopeeFood.
